After taking some classes in 2010, Sherry Trammel-Schauls fell in love with the art of making jewelry and made the transition to self-employed artist in June of 2012. She has been selling her jewelry online since and developed a strong following that is sure to grow now that she has opened the Balsamroot Jewelry & Boutique on Cottage Ave.

Handcrafted with care, Shauls’ jewelry is a combination of natural and unique materials including reclaimed sterling silver, gold and copper paired with gemstone, pearls and drilled river stones. “Riding my horses through the foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range gives me time to reflect on the beauty of my surroundings. What I see outdoors is incorporated into my jewelry,” says Schauls. Her passion is to make classic, easy wear jewelry that is fun and functional, and complements your wardrobe whether you’re wearing jeans or a little black dress.

In addition to her jewelry, Balsamroot Jewelry & Boutique offers one-of-a-kind artisan wares, vintage, and repurposed goods. It is a wonderful complement to Studio B, Jewelry & Gifts next door and a welcome addition to downtown shopping.

Brenda McGowan began creating jewelry in 2000 while working at a local bead store. Through the years her love for beautiful gemstones and quality design grew, and led her to start her own line of hand-crafted jewelry.

“I love creating jewelry, there is just something about it. From dreaming up new designs and picking out amazing gemstones, to creating silver pieces by hand, and holding the finished product… it is fun and rewarding,” says McGowen.

In the spring of 2013, she opened Studio B, Jewelry & Gifts in a unique space on Cottage Ave. In addition to her own line of jewelry, she carries a carefully curated array of handcrafted merchandise and paper goods. Her creative window displays and shop decor complement her neighbor, Balsamroot Jewelry & Boutique, and are a lovely addition to downtown shopping.

After months of voting, Cashmere’s June Festival to be held on Saturday, June 28 has a new name. The festival has been part of the history of Cashmere for over 35 years.
The Festival committee narrowed the choices to the top names and presented those names to the public for a vote. Patty Morrison was the first person to submit the name. She will be awarded $50 plus an invitation to ride in the Crunch Pak parade on June 28.
People voted online and at three retail outlets in Cashmere. Celebrate Cashmere received the most votes from the four final names. Celebrate Cashmere will continue to honor the founding family selected by The Cashmere Pioneer Village Museum.
The Celebrate Cashmere Festival will focus on family fun during the day long festival. The Crunch Pak Grand Parade and the Doane’s Valley Pharmacy Ping Pong drop are two iconic events for the festival. The committee will focus on family friendly activities centered around those activities.
Each year the Cashmere Chamber puts together the festival with help from area businesses and volunteers in the community. It is a time to showcase the unique offerings of the community while promoting family friendly events.
For more information, to help sponsor the event, or volunteer, please contact the Cashmere Chamber of Commerce at 509-782-7404 or Jill Leonard at Jill.Leonard, Events@gmail.com

It has been talked about for years – a revamp of the Founders’ Days festival.

Well, we’re doing it.

The Chamber hired a new event director – organizer extraordinaire Jill Leonard was hired in October — just for the popular June celebration. Now we’re holding a renaming contest.

The Cashmere Chamber Festival Naming Contest aims to find the perfect name for a fresh start to Founders’ Days, which marks 36 years on June 28. Contest entries must be submitted no later than 4:30 p.m., Jan. 23, to be considered eligible.

The festival committee will narrow the choices to the top names and present those names to the public for a vote.  The name with the most votes by March 1 wins. The person who submits the winning name will receive not only recognition but also an opportunity to ride in the Crunch Pak Grand Parade and a $50 prize.

To submit an entry, send an email to Jill.Leonard.Events@gmail.com. In the subject of the email please write “Festival Naming Contest.”  In the body of the email, include your name, phone number, mailing address and the proposed name of the festival.

Here are the rules:

  1. There is no age restriction to enter.
  2. There is no fee for entering.
  3. Enter as often as you like.
  4. Must be a resident of the Cashmere School District boundaries
  5. Neither Chamber Board members nor festival committee members are eligible to enter. Sorry, guys!
  6. The winning entry will receive the $50 grand prize and be honored as the contest winner at the Crunch Pak Grand Parade. If more than one person submits the same name, the prize will go to the first person to submit. In other words, you snooze, you lose.
  7. The winner will also be asked to ride in the festival parade on June 28.  Transportation in the parade will be provided to winner. (Start practicing your parade wave!)
  8. Keep it clean. No profanity, ethnic, religious, sexual, or derogatory terms or verbiage will be allowed.  If the submitted entry contains any such language, the entry will be immediately declared ineligible to win.
  9. All decisions made by the festival committee and Chamber Board of Directors are final.
  10. All submitted entries and proposed festival names become the property of the Cashmere Chamber upon entry submission.

If you have any further questions regarding the contest, contact Cashmere Chamber at 782-7404 or email the festival director at Jill.Leonard.Events@gmail.com
