Founders’ Days marks 35th year with family fun
Founders’ Days weekend, Cashmere’s chance to show off all that makes it special, is June 28-29.
New this year, the Crunch Pak Grand Parade has been moved to a morning event. The Grand Parade starts at 11:30 a.m.
Also new this year, the 26th Annual Doane’s Valley Pharmacy Ping Pong Ball Drop will follow from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Riverside Park.
The one-of-a-kind family event will include three drops to accommodate different age groups: 1-4 years old, 5-9 years old, and 10-13 years old. The first drop is expected to be shortly after 2 p.m. Each drop will have one grand prize, which were donated by the service clubs in Cashmere.
Adults will be allowed to accompany their children who are in the youngest age group; however, no adults will be allowed in the two older categories.
Apple Annie Antique Gallery is sponsoring the free kids events that will be held in conjunction with the drop. Watch for bouncies from Trinity Inflatables and a face painter. The Wenatchi River Traditional Archers also will be there to give kids a chance at shooting a bow and arrow (children must be 3 feet, 5 inches tall or shorter).
The arts and crafts fair, complete with food vendors, returns to Woodring Street, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is expected to be larger than last year!
Other organizations and businesses will join in the fun throughout the weekend. The Lions Club will again kick off the weekend with its Friday evening free community barbecue on Woodring Street. On Saturday, active families can choose from Bike with Brian, a 5K fun run or a golf tournament at Mt. Cashmere Golf Course. The Cashmere Museum will host a variety of events all day, from an antique car show to Native American drumming. The Baron of Beef also returns and will be at the museum. On the other side of town, El Chavo restaurant on Sunset Highway will have a beer garden, kids activities and live entertainment from 3 to 5 p.m.
A complete schedule is on the calendar.
