Wenatchee Valley Humane Society

When Gwyneth and Bruce Mitchell founded the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society in 1967 their dream of giving hope and homes to homeless animals in the Wenatchee Valley came to life. As the Mitchells continued their mission, the shelter grew and expanded- both in size and services. Today, the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society continues to honor their legacy and passion.

As society and culture change, the needs of pets and the people who love them continue to alter and shift and WVHS continues to work to meet these ever-changing needs. The shelter has moved from solely existing as place to care for lost, stray, abandoned and unwanted animals to becoming a resource center by providing a variety of services including: caring for displaced pets, reunited pets and the people who love them, rescuing injured and lost animals, spay/neuter programs, keeping families and pets together in times of need, assisting pet owners through hard times with pet food banks, behavioral modification, investigating animal cruelties and adoption services.

Thanks to a community of generous donors, your WVHS has also grown in size. In 2015, the shelter underwent a much needed transformation with a new building including a Memorial Garden where community members can honor and remember loved ones and pets in a beautiful, permanent setting. And, in 2016, a small on-site clinic was added to care for shelter animals’ medical needs and to expand the reach of spay/neuter and vaccination services to income-qualified pet owners.
